Recap - The Librarians: The Next Chapter 1x12 And the Unfinished Business

Original Airdate: August 4, 2025

The disappearance of the world's most powerful weapon triggers a countdown against one of the Library's deadliest enemies.

Episode Recap

Returning to the tomb of Atilla the Hun, Vikram finds Gregor has already raided it and taken the Sword of Mars.

At the Annex, Mrs. Astolat explains that, as their allotted six months are about to end, the Annex will be folded back into the Library and cease to exist. With their time short, Connor, Charlie and Lysa elaborate on their plans following their service. Connor reveals he been allowed another position, under the condition he not discuss anything supernatural. Charlie is set to return to her military service.

Jacob Stone returns, congratulating the group on their work and offering them plane tickets. Before they can leave, Vikram returns and, panicking, insists they have unfinished business. Before he can elaborate, the Magic Pendulum abruptly explodes after pointing to Caucasylvia. Using the Magic Door to travel to the capitol, Stone follows the group. There, the Caucasylvian president steps down and appoints Bogdan Gregor and his successor. Already alarmed, Vikram and Jacob take notice of the Sword of Mars in his possession.

Returning to the Annex, the group reckons with Gregor now possessing one of the most dangerous artifacts in the world. Jacob angrily chastises Vikram for not obtaining it sooner, though Lysa accuses him of the same.

At the Caucasylvian capitol, Gregor places the sword in a safe before ordering his men, made up of Winslow Lynch and his former band, to send a message to all the world’s leaders.

At the Annex, Jacob explains the wielder of the sword is assimilated upon their defeat, giving its future users the strength of its past owners. Charlie questions Gregor’s choice of Caucasylvia as his domain, noting very little of magical significance. Jacob receives a call from the Department of Statistical Anomalies (DOSA) and an order to report to the United Nations. Pressured, he takes Vikram and Charlie with him to New York City.

There, they meet with Janis Copeland, who explains defense systems around the world have suddenly gone down, which they believe originates from magical activity in Caucasylvia. The delegation receives a message from Gregor: now possessing Caucasylvia’s nuclear weapons and having rendered the world defenseless, he demands all countries of the world surrender to him in 12 hours and threatens to launch his nuclear arsenal against any who refuse.

Transported Caucasylvian capitol, the group observe Gregor without the sword, viewing it as an opportunity to steal it. Jacob and Charlie watch as Gregor supervises the changing of Caucasylvia’s old flags to his new ones, while Vikram, Connor and Lysa track the sword down. Lysa manages to find Gregor’s office, in which the three take note of the safe the sword is stored in. Meanwhile, Jacob and Charlie watch as Gregor announces his intent to launch rounds of nuclear weapons as his inaugural ball finishes as a show of force. With the five’s covers collectively blown, they escape back to the Annex.

Jacob leaves to report back to the United Nations, impressing upon them the seriousness of stopping Gregor. Researching the Sword of Mars and its previous owners, Connor and Mrs. Astolat observe that its previous owners were defeated by their lovers. Recognizing Gregor’s affection for Anya and Lysa’s resemblance to her, Vikram proposes sending Lysa to impersonate Anya in order to sneak under Gregor’s radar.

At the United Nations, Copeland explains none of their artifacts have been able to stand against the Sword of Mars, and suggests they close the Library off to the world.

With Charlie’s help with her appearance and Vikram’s notes about her behavior, Lysa appears at Gregor’s ball. With Gregor initially suspicious, Lysa and Vikram manage to trick him, allowing her to take the key to his safe. Breaking into his office, Vikram, Charlie and Connor find the key will not open for them, forcing them to return the key to Lysa and get Gregor to open the safe.

Gregor forces Lysa to prove she is Anya with details about her favorite drink. When Vikram fumbles remembering it, Lysa identifies it as a family recipe, fully convincing Gregor of the ruse. Lysa manipulates Gregor into showing her the Sword of Mars. Bringing her to his office, Gregor reveals the sword and, under Lysa’s manipulations, allows her to hold it. Tricking him, she leaves with it.

With the sword in their possession, the group prepares to escape, but are surrounded. Gregor takes back the sword and orders them executed. Unsheathing a sword from his cane, Vikram challenges Gregor to a duel. After a short confrontation, Gregor destroys his sword and prepares to execute him when Jacob appears through the Magic Door. Deciding to even the odds, Jacob allows Vikram to wield Excalibur, while he and Mrs. Astolat defeat Gregor’s guards.

In an evenly matched fight, Vikram reveals Anya ultimately chose him over Gregor, distracting and eventually disarming him. Defeated, Gregor is absorbed into the Sword of Mars.

As the group returns to the Annex, Jacob sends Excalibur back to the Library. Restating the Library decides who serves it, he reveals Connor, Lysa and Charlie’s tickets are formal invitations to the Library. Jacob commends Connor’s willingness to protect the Library’s secrets and Lysa’s selflessness, while he and Mrs. Astolat confirm the Library always viewed Charlie as a Guardian and finally has a place for her. Having changed his standing, Jacob suggests the world needs another Librarian with Vikram.

Accepting his place, Vikram uses the Scrying Glass to speak to Anya through her painting. Unable to return to her, he professes his love for her and apologizes for leaving. As Anya reveals their son, Vikram introduces her to their living ancestor and his friends. As her painting disintegrates, the Magic Pendulum reconstitutes itself, leaving the Librarians to consider their next move.

In a forest, a man calling himself Merlin escapes from a tree.
