Connor is forced to confront his past as the Librarians trace an artifact to an old rival.

The group returns from an adventure with clothes from a costume shop. Charlie and Lysa berate Vikram and Connor for their recklessness and Connor’s increasing openness to it. The magic pendulum points them to a convention centre, hosting an international conspiracy theorist convention (the Con-Con). As Connor dismisses it, he admits to being involved with it in the past. Lysa’s research determines he was once heavily involved and famous within the convention goers.
Redressing and heading to the convention, Lysa reveals a magic-detecting app, which regularly goes off in Vikram’s presence. Connor admits he was once a serious academic; after being kicked out of Stuttgart for writing about the existence of vampires, he took to indulging in well-researched conspiracy theories for funding. Despite affectionally dubbing his followers Spectral Snoops, he finds the guest of honor at the event is his hated rival, Harvey Pope.
Entering the convention, Connor struggles to avoid being recognized by the attendees and admits he remains sore about being branded a liar. There, he is reunited with Pedro Worth, one of his younger friends, who remains bitter over Connor’s disappearance since joining the Library.
Attending Harvey Pope’s keynote speech, Connor is dismayed to find Pedro has become one of Pope’s supporters. Pope begins his speech by calling Connor a fraud for lying about the Library. Upon learning many of the attendees still believe and support Connor, he wears a metal crown that puts them all under a hypnotic spell. Realizing its purpose, Vikram leads the group in escaping back to the Library, inadvertently bringing Pedro with them.
Despite his initial amazement at the truth of the Library’s existence, Pedro berates Connor for leaving him. Connor convinces Charlie to let him leave through the magic door, but not before warning Pedro to stay away from Pope.
The group researches Pope’s crown, the Crown of Anansi, finding it removes the rational thoughts of those in the presence of its wearer, while simultaneously feeding on the wearer’s mind. With the group resistant but not immune to its effects, Lysa proposes wearing noise-cancelling headphones to get close to Pope to take it.
Connor leaves to privately confront Pope, who insists he views their rivalry as a game. While denouncing Connor leaving the Spectral Snoops, he further admits to using them to get rich. Connor offers to trade his phone for the crown, which Pope tries to take through the crown’s power. After Connor reveals his noise-cancelling headphones, Pope calls security on him. Connor quickly escapes, aided by Pedro. Having seen the crown days earlier and overheard Pope’s admissions, he has been freed from the crown’s effects. Despite agreeing to help stop him, Pedro still refuses to forgive Connor.
The group plans to try and separate Pope from the crown. Unable to get him to publicly confess his low opinion of the Spectral Snoops, they plan to diminish his ability to speak. Refusing Vikram’s planned use of a spell, Charlie and Lysa plan to use a speech jammer.
Infiltrating an autograph signing, Vikram and Lysa use the speech jammer to disorient Pope long enough for Connor and Charlie to steal the crown. His hold over them broken, the Scoops abandon Harvey Pope.
Reuniting, the group finds themselves drawn to holding the crown. The crown tempts them with their desires. Connor takes it to the roof, where the crown further tempts him with a vision of Stuttgart accepting him. Wearing it, he throws it off and leaves as Vikram appears.
Returning to the Annex, Connor notices the crown appear on Vikram. Making an excuse to send him away, he insists Vikram is wearing the crown. With Charlie and Lysa skeptical, Connor comes to believe they are under his spell.
Returning to the convention, Connor talks with Pedro and apologizes for leaving him in favor of the Library. Pedro accepts his apology before agreeing to help.
At the Library, Connor and Pedro remove Charlie and Lysa's earphones broadcasting a message from Vikram. Believing he intends to weaponize the Library’s power, the group returns to the convention centre. There, Connor apologizes to the attendees for leaving them. With Charlie’s permission, he reveals the existence of the Library and asks for their help to stop Vikram. As the attendees march on the castle, Charlie and Lysa compliment his strategy and planning.
Connor takes Charlie, Lysa and Pedro with him to negotiate with Vikram. Confronting them, Vikram gets Lysa, Charlie and Pedro to admit their glowing opinions of Connor. Finding their behavior unusual, Connor realizes he never rejected the crown and has been wearing it. Having realized it, Vikram attempted to protect Charlie and Lysa, and Connor’s crown-fueled paranoia brought them under his hypnotic control. Manipulating them, Connor manages to break its hold over Charlie, Lysa and Pedro.
Despite it, Connor finds he cannot remove the crown. Vikram reveals the crowd from the convention is still under its spell. Appearing before them, Connor denounces himself as a fraud, breaking their faith in him and dispersing them. Pedro admits his genuine forgiveness of Connor, before realizing he is forgetting the Library’s existence. As he leaves, Connor agrees to stay in touch, before wondering whether the rest will forget their time as well.
