The gang tries to decipher why art is coming to life, while a familiar threat makes their move.

As graffiti artists paint on a local community, one of them, Hermione Pavlis, is accosted by man accusing her of stealing from his shop. Running away, she witnesses paintings moving, one of which takes the shopkeeper.
After watching her, Winslow Lynch reports to General Bogdan Gregor his success in locating her. With Melpomene’s Moon imminent, Gregor declares the Librarian will not be able to stop his return.
At the Annex, Lysa and Connor disassemble Vikram’s time machine, while Charlie forces Vikram to sign document announcing he will not travel back in time again. The group take notice of Vikram’s newfound praise of the team; in spite of it, he deems himself too dangerous to work with and plans to send them away to keep them out of harm, citing their past adventures as proof. Before he can respond to the Magic Pendulum, the group refuses to let him answer the call alone.
Returning to her apartment, Hermione explains the moving graffiti to her grandmother, Katherine. Before they can talk more, the painted hoodies surround their home, and paintings begin coming to life. The hoodies scatter when Charlie and Vikram appear.
Discussing the situation, Vikram is surprised to find Katherine unaffected and unsurprised by the experience with magic. As Hermione shows them the hoodie paintings, they find the shopkeeper has become a painting. Believing the situation too dangerous, Vikram tries to send Charlie, Connor and Lysa back to the Annex. The three reject his efforts before returning their focus to the artwork.
Upon learning only Hermione’s artwork has come to life, they leave to visit her studio. Vikram plans to send Charlie, Connor and Lysa to an art-free safe space; partially agreeing, Charlie sends Connor and Lysa to do so while remaining with Vikram. Using a substance from the Library, he determines none of the artifacts are magic in nature, though he and Charlie fail to notice a painting of a clown come to life.
Talking with her grandmother, Katherine explains Hermione’s parents died in America, after which she came to live with her. As she offers them a storeroom to use as a shelter, Lysa is drawn away by a mysterious chanting. Following her, the two are drawn into a hypnotic spell by Gregor’s Hammer. With the painting of Gregor in tow, Winslow Lynch orders them to bring Hermione to them.
Concluding none of Hermione’s artworks are the magical artifact, Vikram attempts to send Charlie, Connor and Lysa back to the Library. Annoyed by his overly protective attitude since returning, Charlie pressures him to explain his change in behavior. Vikram admits that he has come to properly view Charlie, Lysa and Connor as his friends and the modern period as his time, after rejecting them at first, and fears losing them.
Searching for Connor and Lysa, Hermione watches as they are assailed by paintings of the clown and Katherine. Bringing Vikram and Charlie to her studio, they find Lysa and Connor embedded in paintings. Viewing their fate as a failure on his part, Vikram despairs and blames himself until Charlie compels him to be rational. Approaching the situation differently, Vikram learns that Hermione became proficient in art six months ago and, upon learning her last name, determines she is of Greek heritage and the only one who can release Connor and Lysa from the paintings.
Before Katherine can elaborate, Lynch sends his men after them. The group takes shelter in Katherine’s apartment. Katherine explains, through their female heritage, they are descended from the Greek Muses, and Vikram’s release of magic from the well awakened Hermione’s dormant power. Vikram determines the attackers plan to sacrifice Hermione under the light of Melpomene’s Moon to harness her power to awaken malicious figures from paintings. Finding Gregor’s Hammer outside, he determines the band, now followers of Gregor, have used enchanted music to brainwash their listeners into helping them, and realizes they plan to release Gregor from the time bubble using Hermione’s power.
Feigning falling under the band’s power, Vikram and Charlie learn that Connor and Lysa had fallen under their enchantment; along with the shopkeeper, they conclude the paintings were protecting Hermione. Having learned from his mistake, Vikram encourages Katherine to let Hermione use her art to fight back.
As Gregor’s Hammer prepares to break in, Hermione sends out a wolf, a knight, a storm cloud, and an animated figure of The Scream to send off Gregor’s Hammer. Minimally affected, Lynch breaks into Hermione’s studio and hides the painting of Gregor inside.
Returning to the studio, Hermione uses her power to free Connor and Lysa from the paintings. Reunited, Vikram apologizes for being too protective and doubting their strengths. Before they can continue, Gregor reappears from his painting. Now free of the time bubble, Gregor announces his intent to take Hermione’s power for himself, to raise an army from paintings. Lynch abducts Hermione, forcing the group to stand down and allow Gregor to leave.
Escaping the studio, the group watches as Gregor prepares to sacrifice Hermione. Charlie slips Hermione a paint can, allowing her to create art and improvise an escape. Freed, Hermione creates paint objects that Lysa and Charlie use to dispatch Gregor’s followers. His plan thwarted with Melpomene’s Moon passing, Gregor uses Hermione as a hostage, but is thwarted when Connor draws an anvil, which Hermione animates to fall on Gregor, knocking him unconscious.
As Gregor’s followers scatter, Charlie restrains Gregor and takes back the scrying glass from Lynch. Vikram privately confronts Gregor, who insists his friends have made him weak. As Connor climbs into the building, Lynch slices the rope he hangs from, forcing Vikram to choose between saving Connor and keeping Gregor incarcerated. Pressured, Vikram saves Connor, enabling Gregor and Lynch to escape.
After freeing the shopkeeper, Hermione relinquishes her power, believing it herself unready for it.
Returning to the Library, Vikram notes the same method could not be used to animate the painting of Anya, considering her in her proper time. As Connor, Charlie and Lysa consider their next move against Gregor, Vikram quietly and abruptly leaves.
Now walking amongst the modern world, Gregor takes notice of a TV showing the destructive power of nuclear weapons.
