Recap - The Librarians: The Next Chapter 2x05 And the Red Rock

Original Airdate: August 16, 2026

As a superhero appears in Belgrade, Lysa catches up with an old friend and discovers a trove of secrets about him.

Episode Recap

Robert, an underground explorer and geophysicist, discovers a lab within a bunker. Examining a case, he finds a glowing red stone. A shard from the stone breaks off and embeds itself in his arm. When a large stone case falls on him, Robert, now imbued with enhanced strength, manages to casually move it back in to place.

One month later, Robert is dining and catching up with Lysa. Despite being attracted to him, she struggles to directly answer she has not pursued a relationship due to her involvement with the Library. As the shard in Robert’s arm begins glowing, he notices a group of armed men advancing on a jewelry store and excuses himself.

Connor, Vikram and Charlie, alerted to magical activity at the jewelry store, arrive. As the three speculate about the source of magical activity, they are held up at gunpoint by the robbers. Before the encounter can escalate, a red-dressed superhero, the Red Rock appears and swiftly disarms and subdues the robbers, leaving them for police to find before leaving. Stunned, the three notice Lysa in the diner nearby, having not noticed anything in the back. The three meet with her as Robert returns.

At the Annex, Lysa is frustrated with Vikram’s overprotective behavior. Vikram admits his aggravation stems both from their familial bond and experiences as a Librarian hindering their ability to have a personal life.

Studying CCTV footage from around the city, Connor shows video of the Red Rock in action. Using Lysa’s enhancement program, Connor finds the Red Rock unmasking, revealing him to be Robert. Lysa is disturbed, recognizing Robert’s use of magic. Vikram, enjoying being compared to a superhero, voices the need to find the source of his magic and attempts to send Lysa in covertly investigate Robert, frustrating her.

Connor and Charlie visit the police station. Using their Librarian charm, they are able to meet the jewelry store robbers. Admitting to being shoplifting and desiring free beer, the robbers explain they had been overcome by an intense need to commit the robbery.

Meanwhile, Lysa goes out with Robert. Although she supports his studies and drops hints about her awareness of her identity, he remains evasive and continues asking about her work. The two are held up by a pair of muggers. Casually shrugging off being struck by an iron, Robert disarms one before the other threatens Lysa. When he expresses confusion over his actions, Vikram appears and subdues him. Confused and alarmed when he announces his identity, Robert runs away.

Returning to the Annex, Lysa voices her anger at Vikram, believing he does not trust her. Reconnecting, Connor notes Robert’s previous geological studies before his recent interest in the Alatyr, a powerful stone from Slavic mythology. Charlie explains the thieves’ sudden drive to commit the crime, which Vikram connects to the muggers’ confusion. When Vikram assigns her to talk to Robert, Lysa insists on doing so herself.

Meeting with him, Robert explains what happened in the lab and voices his intent to study it. Struggling to get him to consider her view, Lysa struggles to be honest about her own secrets. Before she can explain fully, he answers a call from the shard, leaving despite her protests.

In the Annex, the Librarians manage to figure out which tunnels Robert traveled through to find the Alatyr. Privately, Lysa voices to Vikram her concerns that Robert has been corrupted by magic. Vikram relates to her romantic feelings through his attraction to Anya.

Traveling through the tunnels Robert explored, the Librarians find the bunker and lab he has been hiding out in. Upon restoring power, the group finds the bunker decorated in Nazi flags. Lysa finds the device Robert discovered the Alatyr in, which Connor opens to find that it has been moved. The Librarians search through the lab for the stone, but fail to find it.

Back in the Annex, Conner determines the bunker was used by the Ahnenerbe, a pseudoscientific arm of the Nazis. Despite successfully finding and using the Alatyr, the stone created forces in the world to oppose them, prompting them to scuttle the program. Viewing it as operating with Newton’s Third Law, Lysa figures that Robert’s use of the Alatyr as a superhero has been magically influencing locals to become criminals in response, which she fears will further push Robert’s corruption to magic. Accepting the need to remove the shard from Robert’s arm, Lysa volunteers to help.

Lysa meets with Robert again. Admitting her career with the Library, she confronts him about his use of the Alatyr. Having been corrupted by its use, Robert rejects her.

Returning to the bunker, Robert prepares to leave with the Alatyr when Vikram and Connor confront him, distracting him long enough for Charlie to take it. Robert tries to use his enhanced strength to fight them back for it, prompting them to exchange it between them and using its power to evenly fight and subdue him. Lysa enters and tries to calm the situation, prompting Robert to threaten to kill her in exchange for the stone. Unwilling to risk her safety, Vikram orders Charlie to hand it over, while Lysa argues against it.

Charlie reluctantly hands it to him. Releasing her, Robert attempts to leave. Stopping him, Lysa confronts Robert with the fact he has unwittingly been creating a worse world contrary to his desire to do good. Accepting, Robert destroys the Alatyr and the shard.

Several days later, Lysa meets with Robert as he prepares to leave Belgrade. Before leaving, Lysa kisses him.

At the Annex, Connor marvels at the power the Alatyr granted them as Charlie prepares to place the remains in the Library. As Vikram arrives, the three discuss what it takes to be superheroes.

Returning, Lysa admits having finally understood Vikram’s lessons about having no personal life outside of the Library. Having watched Lysa and drawing on his experience with Anya, Vikram admits they are human and will be able to figure out how to handle it themselves. Joining with Connor and Charlie, the Librarians leave for a walk out on the town.
