Recap: NCIS 19x11 All Hands

Original Airdate: January 17, 2022

NCIS is assigned to investigate the apparent mysterious death of a Navy officer on a civilian research ship in the North Atlantic, only for the situation to be more than it seems.

Episode Recap

On the Stargazer in the North Atlantic, Lenny and Carl argue over the merits of protecting the ship when a boat approaches. Chief Petty Officer Ian Maddux identifies himself and requests medical assistance for his fellow occupants.

At NCIS, Knight is taking selfies with a paper doll made by her niece, Mika, for a school project. McGee and Torres are surprised when she admits she doesn’t know her age, prompting Torres to volunteer for the job. Meanwhile, Vance and Parker discuss the latter’s time working with the team; Parker admits he is reluctant to assume ownership of the team despite appreciating working with them.

Vance receives a call from Special Operations Commander Womack, informing them that two members of a black ops team and a dead sailor have been picked up by the Stargazer (which both McGee and Parker note is the name of a ship from Star Trek: The Next Generation). Womack limits their investigation to the body and refuses to elaborate on the black ops team’s mission, leading Vance to conclude she is unaware. While Parker, Knight, Torres and Palmer leave from Anacostia, McGee stays behind to dig up information on the black ops team. When his search turns up nothing, Vance suggests McGee enlist the NCIS cyber team while outing himself as a Trekker.

McGee approaches the cyber team, although he is off-put by their passive-aggressive behavior toward him. Meanwhile, the NCIS team arrives on the Stargazer, finding the emptiness of the ship unusual. When Parker notices a bloody handprint, Maddux threatens them, forcing Parker to instigate a gunfight on deck. The helicopter pilots are shot in the resulting shootout, although Lieutenant Vela survives.

At NCIS, McGee visits Kasie, who helps him figure out the cyber team is angry with him for missing a robotics challenge a year earlier. Receiving information from the team, they learn of an NSA report about a Russian arms dealer targeting US ships. Meanwhile, the NCIS team holes up on the Stargazer and struggles to treat Vela. Parker realizes the black ops team is using a signal jammer, prompting him to devise a plan: while he leaves to find a way to work around it, Torres and Knight leave to find the crew, hoping for an advantage in numbers. Although they find Carl, Maddux appears and threatens them.

Vance and McGee speak to Womack at MTAC; she informs them that the team that boarded the Stargazer are unaffiliated with any branch of the military. On the Stargazer, Parker improvises an antenna with which he hopes to send a message with text characters. Meanwhile, Maddux has one of his men, Arius, brutalize Torres for Parker and Palmer’s location. Knight manages to trick Maddux into revealing they want Vela to give them a ride off the ship; Maddux retaliates by tearing apart Knight’s paper doll and brutalizing her.

McGee and Kasie get Parker’s message and are able to figure out how to track the Stargazer. Meanwhile, Parker manages to find Torres and Knight in the ship’s galley by climbing through the ship’s vents. Parker lures Maddux’s team away with the keys to the helicopter, allowing Torres and Knight to escape.

With the keys to the helicopter, Maddux’s team leaves the Stargazer, allowing Vance and McGee to contact Torres and Knight. Based on thermal satellite footage, the group realizes Parker is stowed away on the helicopter. Freeing the Stargazer’s crew, the team finds that Maddux’s crew was formerly hired by Crasis Group, a private military contractor before being fired for theft, leading McGee and Vance to conclude they intended to steal and sell the helicopter. Vance prompts McGee to enlist the cyber team to track radio frequencies of the Russian arms dealer Maddux intends to sell to.

Parker exits the helicopter at Maddux’s base of operations. Hiding in a Humvee, Parker uses its radio to broadcast the theme to Star Trek: The Original Series, allowing McGee and the cyber team to track the signal. At the base, Parker threatens Maddux with a live grenade until a team arrives to arrest him. Afterward, the cyber team find a robotic arm with a message from McGee and an application for another robotics competition.

At NCIS, Vance castigates Parker’s actions, only to be surprised when Parker admits he now views the teams as his own. Meanwhile, Palmer and Kasie help Knight surgically fix the paper doll, prompting the rest of the team to stage a group photo with it.

Cut To The Chase

NCIS is ordered to investigate when a trio of Navy officers is picked up by the Stargazer, a civilian research ship in the North Atlantic. The team quickly realizes the officers are mercenaries who intend to steal and sell a Navy helicopter. Parker stows away on the helicopter and manages to give NCIS a way to track it, arresting the mercenaries.
